Friday, 10/2...we went to closing and took ownership on the house. All went quickly and well and we were here in the house before noon. We had contractors in almost immediately to give us estimates to paint, feed a gas line out to the patio for the grill and get granite countertops. Since we did not have beds, we slept one last night at the Residence Inn.
Saturday, 10/3... the moving truck arrived at about 9am and started unloading. It took the better part of the day. The kids were happy to meet and play with the new neighbors while we unloaded the truck. A bunch of neighbors came by to say hello and introduce themselves. Everyone has been so warm and welcoming! We quit early enough to go participate in the Octoberfest hosted by our city at the local park. Though we did not know anyone, it was nice to see the community together and celebrating!
Sunday, 10/4... just unpacking like crazy and an insanely expensive trip to Costco and Target!
Monday, 10/5... more unpacking and a second truck arrived with the "overflow" from the first truck. As you may remember, they could not fit everything in the 1st truck.
Tuesday 10/6.... just more unpacking. I found the paint store in Boulder to choose paint colors!
Wednesday, 10/7... painter arrives to paint the family room and at the last minute, we decided to have him paint the kitchen too. It was a dark sage green and we wanted something a shade lighter. The color of the "built-in" was the color of the whole room. You can scroll down to the September 8th blog to see it's original shade. It was pretty dark. We chose a much lighter color. We plan to demolish the "built in" and do a stacked stone fireplace with flat-screen above.
Thursday, 10/8... Emily turned 8!!! Painter still working... guy comes to winterize the sprinkler system. Another guy comes to give us advice about the fireplace. Comcast guy comes to set us up for phone, internet and TV (Thank goodness!!) Oh yeah... and it snowed!!
Friday, 10/9... both Emily and I are a little under the weather... stomach feels yucky, headache etc so we both took it easy today. We have all weekend to get better!!
The rest of the week is a blur... mostly just unpacking and trying to find stuff. It took us 3 days to find towels... and we still don't have our answering machine yet. One day at a time, right?
Seriously though, all is well. The kids are absolutely enamoured with the school, teachers and new friends. This community has completely opened it's arms to us and we could not be more thankful. Despite it snowing again tonight, I feel like we are in the right place!
