The first blog post of 2011 and it's going to be a doozy!
If you look way back at the first entry in this blog in April 2009, I was hoping that we would move to Austin, TX in September and live happily ever after. That did not happen. We moved to Superior CO in October and lived happily ever after... for a while.
Back then, we knew that the only "con" of moving to Colo was that there are not a lot of game companies out here. If Lance's studio fell apart & went bust or moved, we'd be in a pickle. So... welcome to the pickle.
Lance's studio is owned by a company in San Mateo, California. They have decided to close the Colorado office and move everyone to California. He has been offered a VP position in the company and will continue to head his studio in California... He starts work there on Monday. He will commute back on weekends for now. This is an amazing opportunity for Lance. He is in the big leagues now... heading a studio in Silicon Valley with a great team of folks. It has always been his goal and he achieved it. I'm very proud of him.
Our house will be on the market as soon as I can humanly possibly do it. We don't have much to do but clean, tidy and pack our pictures. But with Lance being gone, I'll be doing it alone. Assuming our house sells quickly, we'll stay until school gets out in May and then do the drive west yet another time.
I'm nervous and worried (as I tend to be...) but I know we can get through this second move as well as we did the first. I know it's not perfect -- especially moving so soon after the last time. I am so sad to be leaving Colorado and the lovely people I've met here but I count myself lucky to have spent the time here that I did. I can see Lance and I coming back here someday to retire and enjoy the amazing quality of life this area affords its residents.
We are really looking forward to all the Bay Area has to offer. The housing is tricky there and I continue to want to make sure Lance's commute won't add to the stress of our move. I'll be taking a few more trips there and with Lance having "boots on the ground" already, he should be able to look at and rule in or out a lot of different neighborhoods.
So that's it for now... Keep an eye out as I'll keep posting my updates as they happen. Enjoy your spring!
