To keep you all updated...

Yes, I've started a blog. I have begun to tire of my own voice (Lance says "finally") and hearing myself tell the same updates over and over again. So here's where you can find the latest on the craziness we have chosen for ourselves.
But before I can give you today's update, I'll give you the whole story... :)

On February 4th, Lance quit his job of 10 years. There is a LONG story behind his quitting but the gist is that his studio was laying off people and he had a chance to get a very good severance package which would allow him to 1.) look for a job out in the open and leave on good terms 2.) have some time to help finish the work on the house and getting it ready for sale.

Over the past 2 1/2 months, we have been doing just that. The house was a big job... We had started construction on my "office" and had a bunch of work to finish on that plus all the little jobs that are required to make the house look good for prospective buyers. It was a long few months but it was worth it. On April 17th, we put the house on the market and it definitely looks better than it ever looked before.

That was last Friday. We had an offer on the house on Sunday. Yes, only 48 hours. The offer was close to perfect... great money, good financing for them, they rent so no contingency was needed. But... they wanted to close earlier than we can. We went back and hoped that they could agree to June 30th but they can not. We do not want to start the moving process until after the kids get out of school so it looks like this one is not going to work. We've had a number of other people in the house so hopefully we'll find a buyer soon...

The last bit to update you on is the job hunt... Lance worked a little over these past few months on job stuff. His resume looks great, he contacted a bunch of people to give him references/referrals, he's connected on LinkedIn. This week, he really started sending out the resumes. He has a couple of calls this coming week. He has had three phone interviews with a studio in Houston and will probably be planning a trip down there for May.

If we could write this story ourselves....
Lance would get the perfect job in Austin next week but not have to start until September 1st. We'd sell our house to a great family who wanted to move in on the 15th of July. We'd stay here in Fairfax through Fourth of July. Then pack up for the half-way-across-the-country drive to Austin. We'd settle into a nice house that needs no work, we'd enjoy the heat of summer in Texas Hill Country. The kids would start school, Lance would start work and we all live happily ever after.... (Now, tell me that's not a fairy tale)

  1. Congrats on having such fast interest in the house (too fast!). It'll all work out timing wise, somehow, I just know it. Keep the faith!
